CHIG orienteering club has been running continuously since 1966 thanks to the incredible support from our members and volunteers.

If you would like to play an active role in helping to run our club activities (e.g. planning courses, drawing maps, helping run our social media accounts) please send us an email

Once a year we award the Maycraft Trophy to those who have made a signifcant contribution to the club.

Membership fees

The membership year runs from January to December.

You can signup via the British Orienteering website.

Note - fees are reduced from 1st May and again from 1st September for new members joining part-way through the calendar year.

Adult
£29 / year

All adults aged 26 and over.

Part-year reduction:
May-Aug: £23
Sep-Dec: £18

Young Adult
£18 / year

Adults aged 21-25.

Part-year reduction:
May-Aug: £15.50
Sep-Dec: £11

Junior
£8 / year

Anyone under the age of 21.

Part-year reduction:
May-Aug: £6
Sep-Dec: £5

Family
£66 / year

2 seniors + unlimited juniors.

Part-year reduction:
May-Aug: £54
Sep-Dec: £41

Note: the reduced mid-year signup fees are offered to new members or those returning after a break of at least 4 years.

Anyone who has had an active membership in the last 4 years is not eligible for the discount.

Club membership is open to all ages and ability levels, and includes:

    • Eligible to compete in Club Championships and represent CHIG for interclub competitions, team events & relays.

    • Appear in the BOF rankings (you must have entered at least one ‘Level C’ event in the last year)

    • Benefit from organised lift-shares to and from competitions

    • Attend group training sessions with other CHIG members, and benefit from the expert advice of the club coaches.

    • Quarterly issue of BOF Focus magazine.

    • Attend organised CHIG social events and make friends with other keen orienteering enthusiasts in your area.

    • Join our members-only Facebook Group.

    • Vote at the CHIG & British Orienteering AGMs.

    • Subsidised Club kit

    • Insurance cover (liability to 3rd parties) at any event registered with British Orienteering

    • Discount on entry fee for national and regional orienteering events.
